Research Steps:

  1. Choosing a Topic.
    1. Brainstorming-make a list of 20 things that interest you, such as hobbies, sports, foods, things you watch on T.V., clubs you belong to, subjects in school, career ideas, or things you would like to know more about or anything that comes to your mind.
    2. From the first list search the internet for specific American inventions related to your interests. Make a new list of any inventions you find.
    3. Determine from your new list if there is enough information available on any possible topics to complete this project.
    4. Choose your top five inventions and put them on the Topic Choices Sheet.
  2. Turn in your Topic Choices Sheet. Mr. Wickham will then post your topics and you can begin doing your research.
  3. Research, Research, Research!!!!
    1. Find as much info as you can, including text and images. You must have a minimum of 3 sources. One must be a non-electronic source.
    2. To find a non-electronic source, visit the Stoller Media Center, Washington County Libraries, or Multnomah County Libraries.
    3. Emailing or writing to companies or inventors is also another way to get non-electronic sources of information.
    4. Save everything.
    5. Electronic information can be copied and pasted into a word-processing program like Appleworks or Microsoft Word..
  4. Along with your saved information include the source of this material. You will be required to include a bibliography on all your projects.
  5. Google.com and askjeeves.com are not sources! They are search engines.
